Talent | Stevensville MD Senior Photographer

At the very last minute in fall of 2013 I enrolled my then two year old daughter in a beginning dance class at a local studio. I had no idea I had managed to choose the BEST dance studio ever, but I did. And while I can tell you lots about the world of 2, 3, and 4 year old dance, having not been a dancer myself, the rest of it has always been a bit of a mystery to me. I sit in awe at the showcases at marvel at the talent of both the students and the teachers at this amazing studio.

So, when they asked me to do a shoot with their student teachers (proteges), I jumped on it. I love everything this studio represents, and I was excited to see these young people in action.

And wow.

WOW.

Like most parents of young school agers, I'm a little nervous around teenagers. Here is an entirely new breed of kid that I know nothing about. But these young men and women are exactly the kind of teenagers I hope my kids grow up to be - polite, funny, engaged, kind, and so incredibly strong and graceful. They are athletes through and through. I was blown away.

I'm going to tell you a secret. Are you ready? I have favorites. It's true. When I see families over and over and I get to see kids grow up through my lens, I can't help but fall in love with them over and over again. I'm pretty sure that qualifies someone as a favorite :) So, these guys? You know, them? Remember? Definitely some all-time favorites <3 Can you believe how big those kids are getting? So big! I love how expressive they are too, especially big sis. And she's as smart as a whip, with a killer sense of humor. I can't wait to see what kind of personality little bro will have :)

The H. Family | Elkton MD Family Photographer

I love big families. Love 'em. I have one myself, and I see other people's and I think: YES! I love the noise and the chaos and the surprises and that the amount of love is multiplied by so many :) I know from experience though, that when you have that many kids and you want them all to do something... well... it doesn't always work out as planned. I think when that happens it can make a session even cooler, and you can really get to the heart of true expressions. And, you know, sometimes you get some grumpy faces - but hey, it's a real picture of what they are like in that moment! Life isn't always magazine perfect, I prefer real life to a magazine any day :) I loved meeting the H. family. I hope I get to see them again soon! <3

A House Full of Boys! | Eastern Shore MD Newborn Photographer

These guys. THESE GUYS. I have serious love for this whole family. I would really just like to take them all home with me. How cute are these little faces? I've been in love with these two big boys for years, and then their parents went along and added another one to the crew. Swoon! <3 Do you remember them from mini sessions in years past? I'm pretty sure you could never forget these smiles. Baby C. is just as perfect as can be. I can't think of a better addition to this family. Can you imagine how much fun it's going to be to grow up with these guys?

Mr. C, Six Days New! | Easton MD Newborn Photographer

I couldn't wait to meet little Mr. C and his big brother. I had talked a little with his mom in prep for our shoot, and I knew I was going to be meeting a fun little family, that was full of love, and I was so right! I meet a lot of little ones, who show me all sorts of different personalities, and let me tell you - C is one of the most inquisitive, interested newborns I have ever met.  This little guy was not interested in sleeping, even for a minute.  He was intently watching everything happening around him, which was pretty cool! He didn't want to miss a single second :)  So, we got some great awake shots - as much as sleepy babies are the way to go for posing, I love capturing big, beautiful wide open newborn eyes - you just know there's so much wisdom there.  Babies are cool :)  He eventually gave into sleep, and we did get some squishy poses (including in an antique crab basket his mom has, how fun is that?). This is one sweet family :)  Brothers have a special place in my heart :)

Baby Brother Makes Four! | Washington DC Newborn Photographer

Oh sweet Jacob.  Sweet, sweet Jacob.  Is this what all number fours are like? Easy, laid back, adorable? If so, sign me up :)  Jacob rocked my socks off.  This guy was quite the little gentleman for our session, he posed like he's been rocking the cover of GQ magazine for his whole life.  This session was the perfect balance between solo time for little man, and documenting his awesome family.  Jacob has three older siblings, all of whom are quite smitten with him, and a mom and dad who think he's the bees knees as well :) My take home? Big families...they're pretty great :)  <3

She's here! Here she is! | Stevensville MD Newborn Photographer

O. M. G.  Baby Skyelynn is a tiny little pile of squish and love :)  Seriously, this little one is so adorable and soooooo squishy.  Every baby shows personality during their shoot, and little Miss Skye went above and beyond, showing me how spunky and fiesty she is ;-)  In other words, she gave me quite a run for my money :) I photographed Skye when she was just under two weeks old for the posed shots, and then I came back when she was just about four weeks old for the lifestyle and family shots, and I loved that setup! I feel like this approach allowed me to capture her very best and sweetest, and some amazing interactions with her older brother and mom and dad.  I am all for this - if you have a newborn on the way, lets discuss photographing them this way!

I love this family. How sweet are they?

Baby Brother is Here! | Annapolis Newborn Photographer

Hooray! Here he is! I've been so excited for this little guy to make his debut, this family is one of my favorites and I knew little brother was going to be a perfect addition... and he is! Not only is he super chunky adorable, but with a family like this he is guaranteed to be whip-smart and have a killer sense of humor as well.  It's quite a combination :)  His big sister is completely smitten with him, and that's just awesome.  Love love love.

The K. Family | Stevensville Family Photographer

I have the beeeeeeeeest neighbors eeeeeeeeeever.  It's ok, you can be jealous, because I really do.  They are such a fun, sweet family, and we feel so lucky to get to live next to them and hang out with them whenever they're not busy... which isn't often, four kids keep you going and going and going (and going)! Anyway, this group is a blast to photograph, I love the dynamic of big families and the interactions between them that I get to capture :)

The M. Family | Easton Stevensville Family Photographer

The second family at the second round of November mini sessions might seem familiar to you, these little faces show up in my personal work all the time.  This is my sister's gorgeous family, and I love them! :-D They moved here from Vermont last summer, and we've been so happy to have them around full time.  It's amazing to watch your kids grow up with cousins who are exactly their age. Love these people <3

(Im)patiently Waiting | Eastern Shore Annapolis Family Photographer

It's been a while since I've seen these guys, so I was super excited to meet up with them again to photograph the family of three before they turned into four! We lucked out with an absolutely beautiful late fall day, you never know with the weather around here it could be 75 and sunny or snowing, this time of year.  Anyway, this little group is just as happy and easygoing as the last time we saw each other :)  I'm psyched for baby brother to arrive, he's going to round out this bunch nicely.  What a lucky dude to be born into a family like this! And seriously, this is one gorgeous mama.

Say Hello, S. Family! | Annapolis Family Photographer

You recognize these guys, right? At least this guy, for sure? They are far too cute to forget, right? :)  I was so excited to see one of my favorite families at my first November mini session, and we had a great time shooting in historic downtown Annapolis.  These boys are so smiley, I just love photographing them! <3  I know I'll catch up with these guys again soon, I can't wait :)

Meet E, C and W (and their awesome parents, too!) | Annapolis Family Photographer

I love this family.  It helps that two of their kids have the same names as members of my own family, so I feel like we're already on the same wavelength.  They have three kids, we have three kids.  Their kids are crazy, silly and fun... MY kids are crazy, silly and fun.  They're just all around awesome and adorable.  I was so excited they came out to my early November mini session day, despite the rainy/cloudy weather - we didn't miss a beat! Nothing gets these guys down :-D

The Y. Family | Eastern Shore Photographer

The Y. family is another I've been photographing for a few years now, and I am always happy to see them <3 They show up ready, and every shot is model gorgeous.  We often get THE picture on the first shot.  These guys are rock stars! I'm already brainstorming for this fun group's mini session next fall :)

The E. Family | Eastern Shore Photographer

I've been photographing both the E. girls since they were tiny babies, and it's so cool to get to watch them grow up through my lens.  The difference in them from last year to this year is just incredible.  It's one thing to see my own children growing and changing so fast, but to watch the kids of clients do so as well... it's really special to me :)  I love being a part of this beautiful family's life, and being able to document their years.  Plus, they always show up for their sessions looking amazing and so incredibly well coordinated :-D <3 these guys!

The L. Family | Eastern Shore Photographer

I LOVE this family! They are always so fun, and these two boys are the happiest, smiliest children I have ever met.  The L family is part of the group of friends who books a mini session party every year, and I'm already looking forward to when I get to see them again next year... except, this time it's going to be a little sooner! Brother #3 is joining their family in May or June, and you'll get to meet him in all his squishy glory around then :) and before that, you'll get to see gorgeous, glowing Mama's belly! One thing I try to do with shoots is make sure they're personalized in some way.  This time, oh man, did they have an idea :)  Next to his family, Dad reeeeeeeeally loves his truck.  So, what better to do than put the whole family IN the truck and get a shot? I think nothing!

The T. Girls | Eastern Shore Photographer

I've been photographing this family for a while and I. Love. Them.  :)  They come with a group of friends and everyone does a mini session, which makes our session that much more fun (and a mini session party, get together, whatever you want to call it? it's really fun! You should do one too!). Dad couldn't make it this time, but I got some great shots of the girls.  There's nothing quite like a sister, I know how much I cherish mine - you can tell these two do and will have that same relationship.  Love.

The A. Family | Annapolis Family Photographer

I was so excited to meet up with the A family for their shoot! We had a gorgeous fall day, and the light was absolutely perfect.  I love it when people show me places that are personal to them, and the A kids were so cute showing me their yard and neighborhood (and helping me carry all my stuff :)). I hope to catch up with this awesome family again soon!

A Day in the Life of a Two Year Old | Eastern Shore MD Children's Photographer

Every year on their birthdays I do a day in the life post for my kids.  When I first did this with Christopher, four and a half years ago, I had no idea it was going to become a tradition, but it's just kind of morphed into one.  I LOVE it.  It feels like a special thing that I share with each of them, every year, and I love going back to look at their days year after year. This time it was Claire's turn.  My baby girl turned two <3

We had a little reading/playtime right after waking up.  She always has the most epic beadhead, I love it :-D

"Strawberry cereal" (Special K Redberries, my kids are obsessed with it!) is a breakfast of champions for a birthday girl. It's Claire's day, she gets to pick what she wants to do.  What she she want to do? "Bath! Bath! Bath!" Ok then, baby girl, lets do it. And then it was on to the playground :)Hot dogs and macaroni and cheese for lunch with the cousins? Yes! Claire wants to do that! Followed by ice cream - vanilla, only ever vanilla! It's a birthday lunch fit for a queen. Then the ultimate birthday treat for any kid... a trip to Target, where you can pick out ANYTHING you want.  She was laser focused on the babies. And then a little pre-nap winding down and tv watching.Waking up from naps is hard, even when you're the birthday girl......but it's nothing a popsicle can't fix.  In fact, there's very little a popsicle can't fix, when you're two. Surprise! Happy birthday Claire! A big wheel fit for a princess. And then it was dinner time.  A very funny, silly, pizza filled dinner time. "Happy birthdaaaaaaaaaaaay Dear Claire Bear!" Someone enjoyed her cake very much :)Happy, tired, dirty... and one year older.  I don't know how she's already two.  Love her so :)

Letters to my Daughter | Wye Mills MD Children’s Photographer

My Darling Claire, My one and only baby girl! You're a big sister now, and seeing you in that light is both heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time.  When did you get so big?? You are such a little mommy, you have quickly learned how to kiss and pat and shush Ben and you want to do it all the time.  You also want to "hold it!" and get a little jealous that Mommy has to spend so much time feeding your baby brother... but we have our special snuggle time still.  It's amazing to watch the relationship between siblings develop. I only had one sister, so I never knew what it was like to grow up with multiple siblings, let alone multiple brothers.  I can only imagine what your life is going to be like, everyone's little princess? Or maybe a tom boy, trying to keep up with - or maybe showing the ropes to? - your rowdy brothers.  However you grow up, you will always be our cherished girl.

Please continue around the circle, your next stop is my very talented friend Jessie Wixon, a lifestyle photographer from New York.  See what she has to say to her beautiful daughters this month!
