Let Them Be Little | Stevensville MD Children's Photographer

I feel like lifestyle photography is a buzzword thrown around these days, and people don't often take the time to explain what it means to them or why they do it.  So, what is lifestyle photography to me? It's the opportunity for me to capture the very moment as it happens, to watch my children grow and learn and explore right in front of my lens, to immortalize those moments forever.  I love portraits, and think they give me a chance to capture the beauty and innocence that is childhood, but lifestyle... ahhhh, lifestyle - it allows me to tell a story, and not just any story, THE story of these little people.  My people, your people, that's the beauty of lifestyle, I can tell the story of my family or any family.  It's such a special way to take a slice of time and freeze it forever. I'm doing another blog circle this month, joining with some incredibly talented fellow lifestyle photographers (who I'm also lucky to have as great friends!) to capture the essence of our little ones.  The theme of our circle is "Let Them Be Little," an idea which I'm sure resonates with every parent out there.  I found this month though, that sometimes letting them be little both as hard and as easy as watching them trying to be big.  Christopher took advantage of the almost-spring sunshine the other day to do a little spring cleaning, Mr. Fix It'ing, and "I want to be just like my daddy-ing."

He'll always be little in my eyes, but man... when did he get so big? <3

Please continue along the circle and see my very talented friend Sherri's take on "Let Them Be Little" next!

They grow up so fast.  They really do.  Everyone always said it, but until it happened right before my eyes, I didn't realize how fast it really went.  I want to hold her close and remember her every baby everything, every roll, every giggle, every step, every sweet smell, every reach and glance and inquisitive look (there's lots of them!).  She's always been my beautiful baby, and now she's becoming my beautiful girl.  But in the meantime... I want to capture every single baby moment there is.

Fall is here in Maryland! Well ok... fall is supposed to be here in Maryland.  Someone needs to tell whoever controls the weather ;)  I'm not complaining - I love summertime and am sad to see it go - but it is strange to be enjoying a beautiful 72 degree day in October.

Anyway.  We welcomed the start of the fall season with a trip to the apple orchard, back in September.  Nothing says fall to me quite like apple pie, apple sauce, apple crisp, baked apples... yuuuum.  And the Vermonter in me always appreciates the gorgeous foliage (which I can't wait to include in my family sessions this weekend!).  What says fall to you? Football? Boots? Changing leaves? Leave a comment here and tell me! Lets talk all things fall.

Eastern Shore selfie photographer, this week! :) This is a great article (and hint hint wink wink, hopefully a great motivator to get some pictures for and of yourself and your family!), and it really touched me.  I am so used to being behind the camera, I know I need to hand it off to my husband to make sure I'm pictured in at least some of these memories :) And you know what? I can also do it myself.  No shame in a good selfie!

I've been working with low light a lot recently, and it's so different and so out of the box from what I normally do - I'm loving it! It can be really fun to push myself to open some doors to inspirations and techniques I hadn't really thought about before. (And I swear he does things other than just play iPad! I needed him to sit really still, and that was all I could think of :-D)
